Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does my CHESSA membership last?
CHESSA memberships are annual. Membership runs exactly one year from sign-up.
Does a CHESSA membership include a SEIA membership?
Even though we are a regional affiliate of the national SEIA, a membership in one association does not equal a membership in the other.
How do I join CHESSA’s Board of Directors?
CHESSA’s Board of Directors are elected by our members each spring. As directed by our Bylaws, only current CHESSA members in good standing are eligible to run for the Board. Board members serve two-year terms and help drive the strategic vision of CHESSA, our policy initiatives, and oversee other affairs of the organization. If you’re interested in running for the Board, please email director@chessa.org for more information.

Is my membership tax-deductible?
Dues and contributions may be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses for Federal Income Tax purposes. However, check with your tax accountant to review your specific situation. Dues and contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions. The tax deductibility of dues paid to CHESSA as ordinary business expenses is subject to restrictions imposed as a result of lobbying activities. The portion devoted to lobbying is no longer deductible as a business expense. CHESSA estimates that the non-deductible portion of your dues to be 50%.
